Odebrecht announces new project on Gallaitsite, Schaerbeek

New school campus on Gallait site

Due to the large capacity shortage in the Brussels-Capital Region, the Flemish Community Commission (VGC) committed itself to creating new campuses for Dutch-speaking education.

The campus will be a multifunctional space on the Gallait site. This is located between the Gallaitstraat and the Vanderlindenstraat in Schaerbeek. On this campus a new secondary school for 680 pupils, a teenage school for 240 pupils, a primary school for 220 pupils and a youth center will find their place.

Project developer THV Odebrecht-Vanhout Projects together with POLO Architects delivered the winning design in a competitive dialogue with client and users.
The project is unique in many ways and offers maximum development opportunities for the children and young people who are schooling here. In the secondary school a broad curriculum is offered and through the development of a teenage school a soft transition is provided between primary and secondary education. The primary school is the final element of this broad school concept.
In the youth center three youth activities are housed: Chiro Schaarbeek, Ratatouille and Transfocollect.

The whole campus, with an area of 21,700 m², is conceived as a ‘village in the city’ and has the ambition to be a campus tailored to the neighborhood. The doors of this campus will open on 1 September 2019.

Odebrecht is the leading developer in this project. Odebrecht is an affiliated company of Straco.
